All About Me My name is Niku Tabatabai and this is my second year as an Independent Study and Mentorship student. I decided to join this program because through my study of OB/GYN in ISM I, I became interested in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. . I have been interested in the medical field in some form since the age of 6. Therefore, I decided to take many steps in my pursuit to become a member of the medical field. HOSA, an organization that is dedicated to future health professionals, is a club that I have been an active member and officer in throughout my high school career so far. This organization has afforded me many opportunities to help out in the medical community and to also meet fellow classmates that also share a similar interest. Also, I have been pursuing this dream of mine by volunteering at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital since the beginning of 2016. Luckily, I was able to personalize my volunteer experience by getting the opportunity to volunteer on the postpartum floor of the hospital. Throughout my volunteering at this hospital I met many OB-GYN's and also talked to many nurses regarding the profession. This volunteering experience has further cemented my passion for the women's health field and has also made me even more excited for continuing my ISM journey! My plan for the future is to go to college and major in biology. From there I plan on attending medical school and completing my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. As of right now I have also expressed interest in fertility specialty and, luckily, I can further research this career in ISM as well.
Mission Statement Through my independent study of internal medicine, I hope to find my passion in the aspects of medicine I am not familiar with. I will strive to open myself up to new experiences and ideas that will help me create an impactful final product that can in some way contribute to the general public or medical community. This barrier pushing product not only requires my direct dedication, but also my indirect dedication in conducting thorough research, insightful interviews, and finding a passionate and willing mentor to help guide me along the way. Also, I will utilize the resources provided to me in ISM to practice and improve upon my public speaking skills, which will assist me in my future presentations in college, medical school, and with real world patient interactions. In the end, I hope to walk away from my second year in ISM as a much more confident and prepared individual that is ready to take on the challenges that come with going down the medical track.
